NCO Guide Update Published – August 19, 2025

By Sgt. Maj. Valerie Sturdivant NCO Leadership Center of Excellence

TC 7-22.7, The NCO Guide recently underwent a significant revision, ensuring its continued relevance for today’s NCOs. Driven by a 2023 directive, the NCOLCoE streamlined the guide from nine to five chapters, focusing on the core NCO Common Core Competencies: Leadership, Operations, and Program Management. This condensed format improves usability and reduces printing costs by removing color imagery and redundant information found in publications like the Army Blue Book.

The updated guide incorporates critical new content reflecting our evolving Army. NCOs will find detailed guidance on Warfighting Functions, the Integrated Personnel and Pay System – Army (IPPS-A), and the Army’s Talent Management initiatives. Coverage also includes practical information on utilizing the Army Training Information System (ATIS), understanding the Army Fitness Test (AFT), and implementing Holistic Health and Fitness (H2F).

Despite not requiring formal widespread review for TCs, the NCOLCoE proactively sought feedback from over 15 Army organizations, ensuring the revision accurately reflects the needs of the field.

This revitalized NCO Guide is a vital resource, supporting the Army’s priorities and empowering NCOs to lead, train, and develop Soldiers effectively. It reinforces the NCO Corps’ position as the backbone of the Army, preparing Army NCOs for the challenges of the modern battlefield and beyond.
