Academic & Information Technology Prerequisites

Academic Prerequisites

The Academic Prerequisite Instruction Document is for students who will attend the resident Sergeants Major Course. Please follow the step-by-step instructions in this document to complete the requirements before arrival.

Note: Only students with Army Knowledge Online (AKO) accounts will be able to access all of these requirements.
Sister services who do not have AKO access will need to contact AKO and sign-up for an account. International students will receive an AKO sponsorship, and access, during the pre-course.

The surveys, leadership assessment, and courses will be used during the SMC course. The in-processing orientation phase at USASMA is very busy. Failure to complete these necessary prerequisites ahead of time will only make your in-processing time longer and much more stressful. Completing the requirements ahead of time will alleviate that from happening.

Students will need to log-in with AKO credentials for the Global Assessment (GAT) and Multi-Source Assessment and Feedback (MSAF). The VIA Signature and Character Strengths survey and Senior Enlisted Joint Professional Military Education (SEJPME) are web-based and must be completed prior to arriving to USASMA.

Information Technology Prerequisites

All students reporting for in-processing at The NCO Leadership Center of Excellence and United States Army Sergeants Major Academy (USASMA) are required to complete the below listed Information Technology online training. Students can verify their training on the Army Training and Certification Tracking System (AT&CTS) website. If students have not completed the training listed below they must have printed copies of the listed training course certificates during day one of in-processing. Failure to have completed or provide these certificates will delay student in-processing. The required training can be accessed from the links below:

Prior to PCS

Each student MUST ensure that their NIPRNet Access Account is deleted from the losing Network Enterprise Center (NEC). Disabling the account at the losing NEC does not allow us to create the account at The NCO Leadership Center of Excellence. If you have an Enterprise Email Account (i.e. name@mail.mil) ensure it is not disabled by the losing NEC. If you do not currently have an Enterprise Email Account we will request one for you when you in-process
